How to use a video with a route and others

  • DaVinci Resolve or other similar programs – Timeline-based and non-linear video editing software.
  • Photopea or similar tools like Adobe Photoshop – Image creation, graphic design, and photo editing software.
  • OrientView – an orienteering video analyzing program which displays the video and the map side-by-side in real-time. Routes are created and calibrated using QuickRoute.
  • Clue symbols – Create pictures of each control point using Photopea similar tools like Adobe Photoshop.
  • Strava Releases Flyover – A 3D map offering a video recap of activity from a bird’s eye view, providing a unique perspective for Strava subscribers. It zooms into the route, showing the signature Strava orange polyline in motion as the athlete moves throughout the activity.
  • Garmin VIRB Edit – G-Metrix animated gauges and graphs showing speed, altitude, and more. It allows you to add your own data, if desired.
  • Telemetry Overlay – A comprehensive tool for creating HUD (heads-up displays) for action videos. It merges consecutive videos with GPS data, synchronizes telemetry from multiple sources, customizes gauges, and more.

Why edit video in DaVinci Resolve? To prevent the corruption of one clip from influencing other footage, GoPro cameras will automatically split a recording into multiple individual files. It is called chaptering by GoPro.

  1. Start by recording and editing your video using a GoPro Hero.
  2. Record a screen video on Livelox with the following settings:
    • Replay speed x1
    • Restart at each control
    • Follow current leg
  3. Capture a screen recording of a 3D map, available only on mobile via Strava’s Flyover feature.
  4. Use Telemetry Overlay to create HUD. Export the video in the following format: Transparent video, MOV, PNG video.
  5. Use DaVinci Resolve to combine your screen recordings, graphic designs, and other elements into one cohesive video.
  6. You now have a complete video!
Step by Step Guide – Old
  1. After recording the video from GoPro Hero (or other brands) and editing it in DaVinci Resolve or similar programs.
  2. Download the map from Livelox or another option (for example: scan or take a photo).
  3. Download the .GPX file format from Strava or another device (for example: Garmin).
  4. Run QuickRoute to ensure you have two formats: a map and a .GPX file.
  5. Launch OrientView to get a video with a map.
  6. Record a screen video with a 3D map, which is available only on mobile from Strava’s Flyover feature.
  7. Use DaVinci Resolve to create a video with both a map and a 3D map.
  8. Now, you finally have a complete video!
